Kate Donovan Bloodworth of New York City 9/28/57, from Benton, Kentucky, went home to the Lord on September 10, 2024. She was survived by her husband, Everett Bloodworth and her stepdaughter, Cherilyn Barrett. Kate was preceded in death by her child Sergeant Michael Phillip Bloodworth who went to the Lord on June 6, 2013 and her step-daughter Laura Bloodworth Wadley who went to the Lord on April 16, 2022. Kate was adopted by the Crow Nation in Montana by Chief Joseph Medicine Crow and given the name Kate Straight Hair.
Kate liked to say that her only family was bikers – MC’s, RC’s and MM’s, vets and her home church.
Kate began in ministry at the age of 13 as a senior member of the church choir while being trained by a member of the Metropolitan Opera House. She sang at church services as well as funerals and weddings. By 16, she was a member of the church leadership team and in charge of increasing and involving teens in the life of the church and their relationship with the Lord. She continued to work in the Catholic Church in leadership, even contemplating pursuing nunnery vows until the age of 20. Her first husband died after the birth of their child. In 1992, under the spirituality and guidance of her 6 year old son and the leadership at Christian Fellowship Church she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and immediately delved into classes and work. She served in the choir, pageants, taught Sunday school for middle school students, was a cell leader, led a successful mission trip to the Crow Reservation in Montana baptized in the Little Big Horn River, became ordained with the Full Gospel Fellowship of Churches and Ministers and served as an evangelist and leader of Lovesong Ministries, Inc. throughout the central US. She was then ordained by the Assemblies of God and became Youth Pastor at Eddyville Assembly of God and later Senior Pastor at Living Water Assembly.
Due to severe physical disabilities, Kate was rapidly limited to bed rest after working for over 15 years in lab research and trauma hospitals in NYC and 15 years at hospitals in KY. Kate held degrees in Elementary Education, Psychology, Theology, Biology and a minor in Communication Arts and Sciences from Saint John’s University in NYC, State University of New York and Berea College as well as graduate classes at Murray State. She worked on line with a Suicide Prevention group for Veterans and families of Veterans and with the American Porphyria Association. She was also an avid writer of both medical and theological papers and books. She was also a member of MENSA. Her only regrets were that she could not do more for her church family and that she came to know the Lord so late in life and that she could no longer dance for Him here on earth after debilitating fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease.
Kate leaves behind those whom the Spirit helped her lead to the Lord, the youth group and the church she loved and a strong desire that others would pursue the Living Christ in a deep and personal way. The visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Collier’s Funeral Home at 211 W 5th St, Benton, KY 42025. The funeral service will be run by Brother Dennis Lawrence at 4 pm. No donations, flowers or gifts are accepted – all gifts should be monetary and given in Kate’s name to Free Spirit Biker Church for the continued work of their ministry.
