Judy Ray

Judy Smith Ray, 83, of Gilbertsville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 5, 2024 at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah.

She was born on September 11, 1940 in the small town of Calvert City, Kentucky to Henry Smith and Lovola Pugh Smith.

Judy was married to her sweetheart, Larry C. Ray, on December 12, 1957.

Her first jobs were at Klaussner Hosiery Mill and Baker Shoe Store in Paducah, Kentucky. Judy later worked for the Marshall County School System as a bus driver and cook. She enjoyed picking up her students every day with a smile on her face and singing a song. Judy also loved transporting the football and basketball teams to their away games. She was a band parent on all of her daughter's band trips. Judy later went to work at SK Alloy in Calvert City and retired from Fleming Furniture in Benton, Kentucky after 33 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lovola Pugh Smith; her brother, L. Dwain Smith; and a niece, Tracy Smith Dodson.

Judy is survived by her husband, Larry Curtis Ray; two daughters, Kellie Lynn Quigley (Dennis) of Kevil and Kimberly Quinn Ray Wiggins (Gary) of Gilbertsville; and three grandchildren, Linsey Quigley Hickman (Travis), Brett Quigley, and Brandon Quigley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association % University of Louisville MDA Care Center; 401 East Chestnut Street Suite 510 Louisville, KY 40202 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Calvert City Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Marshall County Memory Gardens.

 The visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Calvert City Methodist Church.
