Jo Alice "Joey" Cothran

Josephine Alice “Joey” Cothran, 84 of Benton passed away on Saturday, Dec. 14th. 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years William Andrew Cothran.

She is survived by her children Dr. Michael Love Cothran, his wife, Carolyn Goulart Cothran of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, William Mitchell Cothran, his wife, Stephanie Lamb Cothran and granddaughter, Sophie of Medina, Tenn., her sister, Jane Love Bollmann and her husband, Henry Bollmann of Bettendorf, Iowa. She was surrounded in love by her extended family of brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. 

Joey was the daughter of state representative A. L. “Chick” Love and Rubye Pauline Harrison Love of Lyon County.

Joey was a graduate of The University of Louisville Norton Memorial Infirmary where she received her RN degree. She worked as a surgical, industrial and school nurse throughout most of her career. She worked at the Marshall County Health Department and then was the sole school nurse for the Marshall County School System for many years. 

Joey’s short retirement from nursing led to her new career of owning Joey’s Cakes and Catering. She and Bill were known for their lavish parties and weddings that featured delicious food, intricate carved sculptures of ice along with elaborate fruit and vegetable towers. Joey and Bill took great pride in the presentation of edible artwork. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Collier Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Collier Funeral Home burial will follow at the Birmingham Cemetery family plot.
