It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Gene “Jean” Siress Dowdy, 95, who passed peacefully surrounded by her family on March 19, 2026, in Raleigh, NC.
Jean was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Dallas “Dick” Dowdy; her brother, Joe Thomas Siress; and her great-granddaughter, Lincoln Oxrieder. She is survived by her children, David Dowdy and Beverly Kesterson (James). She also leaves behind three grandchildren, Ken Kesterson (Terry), Wendy Kesterson (Charlie Oxrieder), and Aaron Kesterson (Lauren); six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her four siblings, Betty Erickson, James “Happy” Siress, Jimmie Dale Siress (Faylynn), and Joyce Vaughn (Perry), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jean was born on May 25, 1930 in Benton, KY to the late Edgar and Rachel Siress. Jean and Dick were married in 1946. They worked together in both their construction business and on their farm. Being a full time homemaker, Jean's children were the center of her world. She was well known for her hospitality, her hard work, her clean house, and her talents in sewing and quilting. Jean loved to cook and was especially known for her chocolate and coconut pies.
A devoted Christian of the Church of Christ Faith, Jean loved God and lived a life that reflected her strong faith. Jean’s departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but we find comfort in remembering a life lived with profound love for her family and kindness toward everyone she met.
A memorial service will be held at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, KY, on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 1:00pm. Visitation will begin at 11:30am that morning, with burial to follow at Dowdy Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to Collier Funeral Home.
