Earl Whitler

Lawrence Earl Whitler, age 90, of Gilbertsville passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2025 at his home.

Earl was born in Eldorado, Illinois on July 17, 1934 to James and Delsie Whitler.  He was a member of Calvert City First Baptist Church. Earl began working for the L & N Railroad after high school, he then went on to become a carpenter and worked in the construction industry until retirement. He was a member of the Local Carpenters Union in Eldorado, Illinois for 75 years. Earl valued a hard days work and cherished any free time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and beloved dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Nancy Moore Whitler; three sons, Mark Whitler (Kellye) of Harrisburg, Illinois, Kyle Whitler (Susan) of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Kevin Whitler (Sherry) of Paducah; two brothers, Kenneth Whitler and Keith Whitler; five grandchildren, Karen Henderson, Kelsey Cater, Ian Whitler, Evan Whitler, and Owen Whitler; and several great grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his first wife, Fay Whitler; his parents, James Whitler and Delsie Ward Whitler; two brothers, James Franklin Whitler and Jerry Whitler; and one sister, Clara Wiley.

The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Calvert City First Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Ewing officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado, Illinois.

The visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Calvert City First Baptist Church.
