Darrel Calvin Morgan, 84, died peacefully in Calvert City, Kentucky, on June 21, 2025, with his wife and family by his side. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, as well as a dedicated retired teacher, coach, principal, and devoted member of the community.
Darrel was born in Dearborn, Michigan, on March 29, 1941, to Robert Bathel Morgan and Mary Avalou Johnston Morgan. He graduated from South Marshall High School in 1959. Darrel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both Business and Physical Education, as well as a Master of Arts and a Rank I (30 hours above) in Educational Administration from Murray State.
Darrel met his wife Lorna Ross at a Kirksey High School basketball game, where she was the cheer captain and he was a senior basketball player. By fate, they crossed paths again at Murray State while studying to become educators. They married on June 9, 1963, and soon made their home in Brewers, KY. Darrel went on to spend 34 years as an educator and administrator in the Marshall County school system.
In addition to his career in education, Darrel pursued his passion for business and cars through his two businesses, Morgan Motors LLC and D&R Motors, where he bought and sold used cars for many years. In his free time, he enjoyed watching UK basketball, camping at LBL with his daughters, and driving his grandchildren around on his golf cart. Darrel was a member of New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorna Ross Morgan, and his daughter, Hope Morgan Vaughn (husband Tim Vaughn) of Benton, KY. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Morgan Vaughn of Benton, KY; Madison Boling (husband Jaylen Boling) of Benton, KY; Evie Calhoun of Nashville, TN; and Evan Calhoun of Franklin, TN.
Additionally, he leaves behind four great-grandchildren—Stryker White, Carter White, Callan Boling, and Carson Boling—as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
