Mrs. Beverly Riley Solomon, age 88, of Benton, Kentucky, peacefully passed away at Lakeway Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
Beverly was born on November 9, 1936, in Murray, Kentucky, to Leon and Robbie (Jones) Riley. She spent her early years in Brewers before moving to Benton in seventh grade, where she would later graduate from Benton High School in 1954.
Beverly is survived by her two beloved sons, Todd (Shannon) of Benton, and John (Khrista) of Benton. Her cherished grandchildren include Riley (Casey) of Paducah, Rachel of Benton, Leighton of Murray, and Marleigh of Bowling Green. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Patrick Hollowell of Paducah, and Madeline Brown (Alex) of Paducah; along with nieces Andrea Brousseau of Oklahoma City and Allison Kendall (Joel) of Weatherford, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Jim Solomon; her parents, Leon and Robbie Riley; and her sister, Marsha Pile.
Beverly’s love story with her husband, Jim, began during their school days at Benton High, where dates at the Benton Theater and strolls along Ninth Street sparked their enduring love. After graduating, they both attended Murray State College, where Beverly was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority. She remained close with her sorority sisters, forming lifelong friendships. In the summer of 1956, Jim and Beverly married.
The couple first taught in Eminence, Kentucky, before returning to Benton in 1963, where Beverly spent the remainder of her 15-year career teaching seventh grade at Benton Junior High.
Beverly was an unwaveringly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was her sons' greatest supporter, never missing a game or event. Even after they graduated, her love for sports and community continued as she cheered on her grandchildren at athletic events and extracurricular activities. For over four decades, Beverly was a constant presence at school functions—whether it was basketball games, soccer matches, cheerleading competitions, plays, or choir concerts. She was also involved in the Benton Woman’s Club and pursued her passion for golf, often seen on the course with her late husband, Jim. They were long-time supporters of Murray State University, attending many basketball and football games. Though her family was always her priority, her love for MSU and UK basketball followed closely behind.
Music played a significant role in Beverly’s life as well. She was an accomplished clarinet player in the Benton High School band and a talented pianist, both in the choir at Benton High School and at her church. For over 60 years, Beverly served as the pianist at New Bethel Baptist, a place that held a special place in her heart.
Above all, Beverly was the epitome of grace, kindness, and godliness. She had a deep love for her family, friends, and faith, always offering her support without hesitation. She was a fixture at New Bethel, where her presence was a testament to her devotion. Those who knew her often remarked on her warmth, compassion, and elegance—traits that made her unforgettable. Beverly's legacy is one of love, faith, and selflessness.
While words cannot fully express the impact of Beverly’s life, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now rejoicing in Heaven, surrounded by love, peace, and those that have gone before her. She will forever be in our hearts, and her memory will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
