Ersel Neil Rust

Mr. Ersel Neil Rust, age 86, of Mayfield passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Mills Health and Rehab in Mayfield, KY.

He formerly attended Melber Baptist Church.  He was a member of Folsomdale Masonic Lodge, a member of Mayfield-Graves Golf & Country Club, former chief of Lowes Volunteer Fire Department, a retired employee of General Tire, and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Rust is survived by his wife of 68 years, Nelda Goatley Rust; one son, Duane (Bonnie) Rust of Lone Oak, KY; two daughters, Carla (Rick) Sullivan of Lowes, KY and Ersela (Bruce) McGary of Mason, OH; one sister, Beverly Jean Thornton of Huntsville, AL; seven grandchildren, Melissa Durbin, Nicholas Sullivan, Ashley Birchler, Mallory Carloss, Blake Rust, Alex McGary and Chase McGary; and ten great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deeta Louise Rust; two brothers, Howard Rust and Curtis Rust; three sisters, Leona Maxwell, Juanita Neihoff and Ruth Lumbaugh; and his parents, Clyde and Esther Buckingham Rust.

Funeral services for Mr. Ersel Neil Rust will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield, KY.  Rev. Joey Glisson and Darrick Herndon will officiate.  Interment will follow at Lowes Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Sullivan, Blake Rust, Alex McGary, Chase McGary, Derek Durbin and Tyson Birchler.  Honorary pallbearers will be Ethan Sullivan, Maddox Birchler, Knox Durbin, Dawson Sullivan, Sutton Carloss, Knash Durbin, Sawyer Carloss, Sullivan Carloss and Everett McGary.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the funeral home.
