Mary Aleda (Pearcy) Denton, daughter of Nina (Miller) and Aubra Cline Pearcy, passed away Saturday, October 3, 2026 in Memphis, TN. Born February 19, 1932, on a farm in Henderson County, she married Elbert Austin “Shorty” Denton on December 7, 1946, whom passed away on May 31, 2001. Aleda is survived by her daughter, Kareen Fay Denton; son, Alan Wayne Denton and his companion, Deborah McCrady. Aleda lived in Henderson County, Kentucky, and Indianapolis settling with her family on a farm in Livingston County in 1960. In 2014, she moved to Memphis to be closer to her son and daughter. Aleda (her preferred name as she always said there were too many Marys in her family) was a committed Christian, making sure her family grew up as church goers too. Once in Memphis, she joined the Ridgeway Baptist Church, but during her long years in Salem, she was a member of Cedar Grove Methodist Church and later Pinckneyville Baptist Church. Aleda was loved dearly by all of her family and friends. She was committed to caring for her husband throughout his life and was an excellent caregiver during his illness. She enjoyed cooking (and was GOOD at it), sewing, quilting, and making hand braided rugs. Funeral services will be Friday, October 9, 2026, at 12 Noon, in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors, 212 East Main Street, Salem, KY. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, from 11AM until the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your favorite animal rescue charity.
