Mrs. Hazel Doom Guess, 88, of Fredonia, KY, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 at her home.
She found joy in simple meaningful things such as gardening, reading, quilting, canning fruits and vegetables, and spending time with her children and family. She was especially proud of how many quarts she could “put up” each season for her family, seeing it as another way to care for those she loved.

She was an excellent seamstress and also expressed her creativity through crafting-making wreaths and beautiful decorative items that reflected her warmth and care.

She always put her family first and had an unconditional love for her grand-children.  She shared knowledge with her grandchildren of the lost art of canning, preserving, quilting, and drying flowers for crafts.

Mom set an example for her children and grandchildren by loving them unconditionally and projecting integrity and kindness.  The grandchildren were always excited to share a trip to the pumpkin patch with “Mom and Pop”, helping pick blackberries on the farm and vegetables from the garden, and enjoying Mom Hazel homemade dumplings.

She is survived by; six children, Kenneth Ray Guess (Sandy) of Salem, KY, Jimmy Guess (Gayle) of Marion, KY, David Guess of Fredonia, KY, Justin Guess (Lece Carter) of Fredonia, KY,  Ann Carrigan (Jerry) of Benton, KY, Delanna McKinney (Brian) of Marion, KY; a sister, Martha Maxfield of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Heather Franklin, Kenneth Ray Guess, Aspen Carrigan Gentry, Ryan Drew Ray Guess, Peyton Nicole Guess Reich, Landry Taylor McKinney, Ellary Ann McKinney, Stephanie Cowen, Brad Guess of Newburg, IN, Jason Guess of Marion, KY; and several great grandchildren.
