Franklin D. Walker

Mr. Franklin D. Walker, 89 of Murray, KY, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday November 5, 2023, at 1:00 am, at Murray Calloway County Hospital, Murray, KY. 
 
Born November 13, 1933, Newberg, KY, Franklin was the son of the late Clarence and Mary Lee (Colson) Walker.  He proudly served his country in the US Army and worked at Murray State University, Tappan, and as a Kirby vacuum repairman.  He was a cherished member of Locust Grove Baptist Church.

Franklin was a multi-talented carpenter and electrician, often self-taught, and known for his fabulous sense of humor.  He brought joy and laughter to those around him and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family.  He lived by the motto, “If you can’t be good, then be bad”.  He was the heart of many, and his legacy of kindness, love, and humor will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  He will be deeply missed.

Franklin was a loving husband for over 67 years, to Ida Jo (McDougal) Walker, whom he married on November 6, 1956.  He is survived by his loving wife and two daughters, Anna Walker and Sherry Free (Mark).  He also leaves behind five grandsons, Christopher Cox, JC Cox, Craig Free (Marlene), Matthew Free (Chelsea), and Brian Free (Dallas); as well as five great-grandsons and five great-granddaughters.    

In addition to his parents, Franklin was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, and his granddaughter, Zianna Cox. 
 
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home in Murray, KY with Bro. Brandon Bramlett officiating.  Burial will follow the service in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Murray, KY.
 
Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, November 7, 2023, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at the Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home, 713 S. 4^th St., Murray, KY 42071.
