Mr. Charles Rudolph “Boogie” Thurman, Jr., 84 of Murray, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.
Born February 22, 1940, in Murray, KY, Charles was the son of the late Charles Rudolph Thurman, Sr. and Mary Euple (Outland) Thurman. He was the managing accountant for the Ryan Milk Company but was better known for 36 years as co-owner and instructor, with his first wife Elsie, of the Thurman School of Dance. His love of dance started at an early age and dancing to the music at First Baptist Church as a child earned him the well-known nickname of “Boogie”. Charles was a proud alumnus of Murray State University and a member of First Baptist Church in Murray.
Those left to cherish memories of Charles include his wife, Joan (Sirls) Colson Thurman of Murray; son Ashley Thurman and wife Pam of Paducah; grandson, Curt Thurman of Murray, step-grandchildren, David Loftin of Bluffton, SC, Heather Wadley of Paducah, KY, and Bethany Loftin of Leesburg, VA; and 6 step-great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by several special nieces, nephews, and cousins who survive.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie (Love) Thurman; a son, James Craig Thurman; sisters, Mary Virginia Thurman, Euva Nell Thurman Gibbs, Betty Thurman Stewart and a brother, Charles Leroy Thurman.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home in Murray, KY with Fr. Brian Johnson and Ashley Thurman officiating. Entombment will follow the service in the Murray City Cemetery Mausoleum.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 15, 2025, after 12:00 noon until the funeral hour, at Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home, 713 S. 4th St., Murray, KY 42071.
