Donald "Pappy" Obermark

Donald “Pappy” Obermark, 81 of Metropolis, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Baptist Health Paducah surrounded by his loved ones. 
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home with Dean Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Metropolis Memorial Gardens. 
Donald was a man of many talents, a jack of all trades. Most anything you asked of him he could help you with, including, but not limited to, septic systems, farming, hay baling, plumbing, and excavation work. Donald enjoyed helping people, and if you called him needing help with something, your name and number was probably written on a scrap piece of paper that he kept tucked in his front shirt pocket with a pen. He attended St. John Lutheran Church as a child, was a millwright and taught some agriculture classes at Massac County High School in recent years. Before he got busy for the day, you could find Donald at local restaurants sharing stories over a breakfast table with beloved friends. Donald lived to tell the tale of stories that only he could get himself into. To know him was to love him, and he is going to be deeply missed by many.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Laurie Sullenger; common-law son, Eugene Huston; grandchildren, Destini McPherson (Brandon), Paige Gaertner (Justin), Kelli Sullenger (Jeremy Johnson), and Zaylor Sullenger (Desiree); great grandchildren, Serinity Sullenger, Callie Gaertner, Landry Gaertner, Haynes McPherson, Korbyn McPherson, Austin McPherson, and A’Kynleigh Johnson; brothers, Paul Obermark (Cindy) and Dale Obermark (Florence); as well as several nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Esther (Horstman) Obermark; great granddaughter, Addy Grace Gaertner; sister, Lula Grimes; brother, Jesse Obermark. 
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home.
