Cynthia Palmer's sentence on Monday is a tough one, but considering it was part of a plea deal she made with prosecutors last month, it's clear that things could have been even worse for the young woman who admitted to leaving her child on the interstate after using drugs.
Marshall Circuit Judge Dennis Foust on Monday sentenced 29-year-old Cynthia Palmer of Clarksville to 10 years in prison for assaulting her toddler son in February of last year. He was found on I-24 with a serious head injury and was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville for treatment. He survived the incident.
Palmer was seen walking along I-24 with another one of her children when her son was discovered lying along the roadway. She admitted to police that she began hallucinating and pulled over on the interstate because had used bath salts prior to driving.
Palmer was also given a five year sentence on a wanton endangerment charge, 90 days for public intoxication, 15 days for DUI, and 12 months for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The sentences will run concurrently.
