A new Village Post Office opened Wednesday in Calloway County.

Through the Postal Service’s Village Post Office partnership with Kirksey Store, local residents and businesses in the Murray area will enjoy the convenience of a Post Office. The Kirksey Village Post Office will provide a specific range of services that include the sale of First-Class postage stamps, offering Priority Mail products, Post Office boxes and accepting mail.

The Postal Service unveiled the Village Post Office concept last spring for consideration in communities which have no Post Office or lost a Post Office. VPOs are designed for non-Postal Service establishments, such as an existing community business, town hall or government center. The Postal Service acknowledges the contributions Kirksey Store owners Richard and Alecia Tabers, who helped to make the VPO in Kirksey possible.

The store is located at 3918 Kirksey Road, and will be open 5 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday.

A Village Post Office opened last month in Lynville, in Graves County.
