Community members with a Murray State University email address received a notice on June 5 from MSU President Ron Patterson. The notice said a member of their community had passed away.
Angela Claxton, 49, was an administrative assistant in the Branding, Marketing, and Communication Office, who lived in Buchanan, Tennessee.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide.
A press release distributed by Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey via Facebook on June 5, said the sheriff’s office received a call the same day about a deceased person at a residence on Cay Lawrence Rd., in Buchanan. The deceased was identified as Claxton, found in her home.
Frey also said the body was sent to the medical examiner in Nashville, and both the sheriff’s office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are asking the public to assist in the case.
“If you have a residence on or in the area of Cay Lawrence Road, Buchanan Road or Cowpath Road, we ask that you check any cameras that would pick up vehicles or any other means of transportation in the area between the hours of 9 p.m. Wednesday June 3, 2026 through Thursday June 4, 2026,” Frey wrote.
“Also if you were in these areas during this time frame and met any vehicles during your travels,” he continued, “please reach out to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation Division at 731-642-1672 option #7 or 1-800-TBI-FIND if you find ANY vehicles, motorcycles, or any other means of transportation on your cameras and we will send an investigator to your home to check what was found.”
