A theft investigation in Reidland sent a St. Louis pair to jail this week.

McCracken County deputies said it was discovered on Tuesday that a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and two electric bikes had been stolen from the parking lot of a local business.

The business owner additionally told deputies someone had broken into a motor home and tampered with the ignition.

Princeton police located the jeep in the parking lot of another local business on Wednesday, leading to the arrest of Steven M. Hays and Dawn A. Morgan.

McCracken County deputies traveled to Princeton and interviewed the suspects. The sheriff's office said it was discovered that Hays and Morgan had traveled to McCracken in a stolen box truck, left the box truck in the parking lot of a local business, then dumped the electric bikes in the parking lot of an additional local business.

The truck and electric bikes were recovered soon after.

Hays was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000, theft by unlawful taking over $1,000, receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, and two counts of criminal mischief.

Morgan was charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000 and receiving stolen property $10,000 or more.
