The McCracken County Sheriff's Office warns the public about a scam reported at local gas stations.
Deputies said a man recently approached two different people at area gas stations. He claimed to be stranded with no money to buy gas, and offered to give jewelry to them in exchange for gas money.
Deputies said that in both instances, the jewelry was fake.
The sheriff's office warns that scams are on the rise and asks people to remember, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."
