After low water on the Mississippi River has hampered operation of the Dorena-Hickman Ferry, the ferry has resumed service this morning.
Thanks to widespread rain earler this week, this morning the Cairo Gauge showed 20.9 feet. That's well above the 14-foot reading required for the ferry to operate.
With another inch or two of rain coming here and upstream this weekend, the river forecast indicates the ferry should be able to operate beyond January 25.
However, high winds in the forecast this weekend could also hamper ferry service.
The ferry's last run from the Kentucky landing is at 4:15 p.m., and the last run from the Missouri landing is at 4:30 p.m.
