A Paducah man has been arrested after allegedly making a false report about a shooting incident that took place Tuesday.

Metropolis Police arrested 24-year-old Corey Atkison on Thursday after he allegedly admitted to lying to Paducah Police about the incident. Warrants were issued out of Paducah charging him with tampering with physical evidence and making a false report.

Paducah Police were called to a local hospital after Atkison came in for treatment of a gunshot wound to the foot. He allegedly told officers that he was getting in his car on South 28th Street and another vehicle drove by and shot at him.

Detectives interviewed potential witnesses and began to believe his story "didn't add up." Atkison was interviewed again and reportedly admitted to accidentally shooting himself in the foot. Police were able to locate Atkison's gun at a separate location.

Atkison was served the warrants and taken to the Massac County Jail. He was later returned to Kentucky and lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.
