The attorney general announced a temporary designation for the commonwealth attorney for the 1st Judicial Circuit in Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton and Hickman following the death of Mike Stacy.
Carrie Ovey-Wiggins will temporarily serve in the position. Ovey-Wiggins is currently in her second term as commonwealth attorney for the 56th Judicial Circuit in Caldwell, Livingston, Lyon and Trigg counties.
Ovey-Wiggins has agreed to serve until the governor appoints someone, or the voters elect a new commonwealth attorney.
Her father, G.L. Ovey, held the position for 27 years.
Previously, she served in the office as the assistant commonwealth attorney.
The designation follows the passing of longtime Commonwealth Attorney Mike Stacy, who died on April 29 in Hickman County following a car crash. Stacy had held the office since 2006.
According to the attorney general’s office, Ovey-Wiggins will be supported by two assistant commonwealth attorneys, a commonwealth detective, a victim’s advocate and an administrative assistant already serving in the office.
