The National Weather Service in Paducah has announced a new weather resource for Amish and other off-grid communities.
Thanks to the work of two forecasters and the National Weather Service's Electronic System Analyst, those without access to electronics can now receive important weather information from the National Weather Service in Paducah by calling 270-744-6331 and selecting option 4.
The feature will allow callers to listen to the latest forecast information for selected portions of the area and the Hazardous Weather Outlook.
A separate new option will allow callers in the Evansville Tri-State area to access local forecast information by selecting option 5.
Callers will still have access to local weather forecasts, climate information, river stages, and have the option to speak with a forecaster if necessary.
"Communities that lack electronic ways to receive forecast and hazardous weather information are particularly vulnerable when dangerous weather strikes," says NWS Paducah Warning Coordination Meteorologist Christine Wielgos. "By adding this new phone resource, we hope this will allow these communities to stay aware and prepared when the National Weather Service is forecasting hazardous weather."
