On Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Paducah released their preliminary storm damage survey. Results showed that last Friday's deadly tornado had an intensity rated at EF4 as it roared through western Kentucky.

They said the tornado had estimated winds of 190 mph, an estimated length of 128 miles and was a mile or more wide.

The tornado started five miles southwest of Cayce, and finally ended northeast of Bremen in Muhlenberg County. However, the tornado's start and endpoint may change as they are still being analyzed. Storm surveys in northwest Tennessee, the Missouri bootheel and in Arkansas are still being completed by National Weather Service staff in Memphis.

The initial survey said massive impacts were along most of the tornado's tracks, with the worst damage found in Cayce, Mayfield, Princeton, Dawson Springs, Barnsley, Bremen, and the areas north of Benton and south of Princeton.

The survey took several days longer than normal because of the length and the massive scope of the damage. Along with Paducah staff from the National Weather Service, additional experts in assessing tornado damage were flown in from around the country.
