Reports of an attempted burglary in Paducah on Tuesday led to a Murray man's arrest.

Officers were called to a home on Jones Street late in the night after it was reported that a man was trying to break in.

The man reportedly fled when authorities arrived, but was detained down the street soon after.

The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Edward E. Pettis, claimed he was allowed to be at the home. However, the homeowner said he was not supposed to be there.

The sheriff's office said Pettis was additionally recognized as a suspect in a catalytic converter theft that took place earlier in the day on Irvin Cobb Drive. After interviewing him about the case, he allegedly admitted to being present when the theft happened.

Pettis was charged with attempted burglary, fleeing or evading police, and two counts of theft by unlawful taking.

He was taken to the McCracken County jail.
