Metropolis tourism gets $106,000 boost from state fund

Metropolis tourism got a boost from the state of Illinois in the latest round of project funding recently.

The Greater Metropolis Convention and Visitors Bureau will receive $106,350 for the Superman Celebration and the Fort Massac Encampment.

Other southern Illinois events were also awarded funds for their projects.

The city of Du Quoin will receive $62,250 for their Holiday Lights Fair.

The Southern Illinois Airport Authority will receive $142,500 for the Cascade of Colors event at the airport.

The city of Carbondale will receive $500,000 for improvements to Superblock, a sports multi-complex owned by the city.

A total of 89 projects across the state will receive a share of $22.5 million in grant funding through the Tourism Attractions and Festivals Grant program.
