Felony arrest warrants were issued for two Graves County men accused of desecrating a Native American burial site in Fulton County.

The Fulton County Sheriff's office said Matthew James Kell and Michael Shannon Wilson trespassed on a historical site known to contain a significant Native American burial ground.

The men allegedly excavated the site and removed important religious and cultural artifacts.

During their arrest, officers located a collection of Native American artifacts as well as human remains.

The sheriff’s office is working with officials from the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs, Chickasaw Nation and other cultural heritage preservation experts.

The pair were indicted by a grand jury on the felony charges that included desecration of venerated objects, defacement of historical grounds and criminal trespassing.
