Tuesday evening Paducah Mayor George Bray presented eighth grader Nyla Holder with the first Junior Duchess Award.

The city already presents Duke and Duchess awards to recognize adults who have impacted the community. However, Bray said the city decided it was time to develop a junior Duke and Duchess award to recognize teens.

Holder was nominated for this distinction by her teacher. She serves as a school ambassador and was recently crowned the 2022 Junior Miss Cosmos. She volunteers her time at the Merryman House, McCracken County Humane Society and Book for Hope, with the goal of working towards a Presidential Service Award.

She is helping with a “Stuff the Truck” event on Saturday to help the eastern Kentucky flood victims. She organized the event with US Vet Connect and Atomic City partnering with her. You can see more about that event by clicking our story here.
