After receiving a significant number of donations following the December 10 tornado, officials in Marshall County are now requesting volunteers and gift cards.

Marshall County Public Information Officer Britney Hargrove told West Kentucky Star Wednesday that the county needs Walmart and gas gift cards as well as volunteers to help distribute supplies.

"We've seen some needs that have come up that are outside of those typical things that come in that have been donated, so the gift cards have been a wonderful way to help fill that gap," Hargrove said.

Anyone that would like to donate gift cards to storm victims is asked to call the county's tornado relief hotline at 270-527-8657. Potential volunteers are asked to sign up by clicking here.

Residents can also call the hotline to report damage, learn about resources, request assistance, and learn how to receive resources.

Hargrove said the county is making great progress on recovery efforts and debris removal.

"So many large-scale organizations are here that are helping with the cleanup and starting to work on the rebuilding process," Hargrove continued, "It's been a great thing to see so many people come together to start making a difference so quick."
