Marion city officials welcomed Governor Andy Beshear to town on Wednesday, along with Transportation Secretary Jim Gray, and Kentucky Emergency Management Director Jeremy Slinker.

Beshear wanted to assure local leaders that the state was behind them in the effort to get through the water emergency, after Lake George had to be drained in April.

The city of Marion will begin distributing water to its 3000 residents on Thursday.

Marion is down to about a 20-day supply of raw water, even as neighboring water districts are scrambling to connect their lines to the Marion system.

City officials said bottled water can be picked up by residents at the old National Guard Armory starting Thursday between 9am and 6pm. Each household can receive three gallons of water per person each week.

A system of pickup according to residents' last names has been set up to give everyone an opportunity to get water by Tuesday the 28th.

The pickup schedule is posted on the Marion City Hall Facebook page.
