Water levels in Marion's Old City Lake are high enough that the city hopes to flush out their entire system over the course of this week.
Ever since Marion's water crisis began in April, low flow in pipes caused water to stagnate in the outer portions of their system, resulting in low chlorine levels and higher bacterial levels. This was the reason for the longstanding boil order, and the need for bottled water to be distributed. Officials hope the improved water chemistry will soon allow residents to use tap water as usual.
Over the weekend, utility crews began flushing the lines during overnight hours. They hope to get through the whole grid by Thursday.
Meanwhile, during the cleanout Marion residents may experience some low water pressure, air in water lines and some discolored water.
