Kirksey man accused in spate of suspicious Calloway fires

A Kirksey man is accused in a spate of suspicious field fires in Calloway County.

On Friday Calloway County Sheriff's deputies arrested 70-year-old John W. Young and charged him with multiple counts of criminal mischief and willfully setting fire on land not owned or controlled by him.

The fires occurred over several months from October 2022 to July 2023. Investigators beleive the fires were intentionally set creating losses for area farmers. Fortunately, no structures were damaged and no one was injured in the blazes that required many man-hours from Calloway County Fire-Rescue to fight.
