Four Chicago men were arrested in Ballard County over the weekend after a multi-agency investigation into altered money.

Authorities received tips about altered bills that were used at Dollar General stores in Wickliffe, Barlow, and Kevil.

Deputies said they were able to confirm lower denominations had been modified to look like $100 bills.

Ballard authorities contacted McCracken County dispatch and warned of possible attempts to pass the altered bills at Dollar General stores in other counties.

McCracken deputies said the suspects had used the same type of altered currency at Dollar General stores on Kelly Road and Cairo Road.

Paducah police found one of the suspects at the Dollar General on Park Avenue and three others were arrested after a vehicle matching the right description was located near Mellow Mushroom.

Marquis Crawford, David Williams III, Demonte Evans, and Anthony Townsend were each charged with multiple counts of possession of a forged instrument and engaging in organized crime to defraud a business of money.
