Five troopers from Post 1 in Mayfield were honored at the Kentucky State Police annual award ceremony in Lexington.

Two troopers and one detective were honored for their actions during the December tornado.

Detective Nathan Moore was named Post 1 Detective of the Year. He and Trooper Garret Clark were both honored with KSP Citations for Bravery. Moore and Clark responded to the Mayfield candle factory, working through the rubble and damaged utilities to help those trapped in the collapsed building.

Trooper Tyler Bloodworth was given the KSP Citation for Meritorious Service for walking through several miles of debris in Marshall County helping residents get out of the rubble of their homes.

Detective John Sims was named the 2021 Electronic Crime Branch Detective of the Year.

Trooper Cody Jackson was named the 2021 Post 1 Trooper of the Year.

The annual ceremony honored 75 troopers statewide for service and bravery in 2021.

Post 1 Commander David Archer said, "The humble nature of our troopers and detectives does not lend itself easily to recognition, yet the actions that lead to these awards are noteworthy. Each of these troopers distinguished themselves during 2021 while serving their fellow Kentuckians. They are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to duty that has made Post 1 a safer place to live."
