The first snow of the season made for white backyards in southern Illinois, and even up to 3 inches toward Evansville.

Two inches was reported at DuQuoin, and further west in Missouri, counties west of St. Louis saw 4 inches.

Along I-57 to I-64 in Illinois, there was enough snow on roadways to cause some vehicles to slide off the road. Otherwise large flakes were seen from Herrin to West Frankfort, as snow accumulated further east in McLeansboro to the Indiana border.

Another clipper system will bring the potential for light snow to portions of the area on Monday.

At this time, a light accumulation of up to an inch is expected, mainly across portions of southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, and the Kentucky Pennyrile.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing, so any snow that falls will stick around.

For the rest of the week, temperatures will moderate closer to seasonal norms by Wednesday, before another cold blast by the end of the week. With the exception of Wednesday's high near 50, much of this week will be cold with highs mainly in the 30s and 40s and lows in the teens and 20s.
