Mayfield and Graves County firefighters extinguished the blaze at the new Hampton Inn in Mayfield on Tuesday afternoon.

Sources initially told West Kentucky Star that the fire started after an electrical surge while crews were working just before 3:00 p.m. Firefighters later confirmed a report of an explosion on the roof. According to sources, two individuals were taken to Jackson Purchase Medical Center. Mayfield Police, Graves County Sheriff’s deputies, and Mayfield Firefighters worked together to evacuate the interior of the building while other firefighters began to attack the flames from outside.

The fire was out by 3:20 p.m., but first responders remained on the scene until about 5:30 p.m., helping employees and guests retrieve personal items.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The 4-story, 87-room hotel had just opened to guests in mid-August

A fire has been confirmed at the new Hampton Inn in Mayfield.

The Graves County Sheriff's Office confirmed reports that a fire is being fought at the hotel by Mayfield Fire and Mayfield Graves County Fire and Rescue.
