Farmington Elementary School in Graves County was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday as a National Blue Ribbon School.
A total of seven Kentucky schools were given the distinction for 2023, out of 353 schools nationwide.
Farmington Elementary School was the only school named in far western Kentucky.
The recognition is based on a school's overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments.
Officials said Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices for educators across the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag placed along a school's entryway or flagpole is a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
