An extreme heat warning is issued for westernmost Kentucky today.

The extreme heat warning means that today from 11 am until 8 pm, heat index readings up to 110 are possible.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during longer duration heat waves. This will be the fourth consecutive day of extreme conditions.

For the rest of western Kentucky east of the lakes and into the Pennyrile, another heat advisory is in effect today with heat indices forecast to 105.

The heat will be accompanied by scattered strong storms through the weekend, then an even more dangerous major heat wave will build across the Midsouth and Midwest later next week.
