The date for demolition of the old US 60 Cumberland River Bridge at Smithland has been moved to later in November.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said the arrival of a barge-mounted crane to be used to retrieve sections of the steel truss after explosives drop it into the Cumberland River has been delayed. The tentative demolition date will either be November 16 or 27.
A final date will be determined in collaboration with the U.S. Coast Guard, with weather conditions being a final factor. Meanwhile, prep work for the demolition is nearing completion.
