Cemeteries and cultural sites in Land Between the Lakes will be better preserved with the help of $100,000 pledged by three organizations.

The Tennessee Valley Authority in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service and Friends of Land Between the Lakes announced the contribution on Saturday at the Grand Rivers Community Center.

The funds will go towards the maintenance and preservation of LBL’s cemeteries and other sites of cultural heritage.

“The Land Between the Lakes is a treasured part of this region and an important place in the area’s history,” said TVA Board of Directors Member Wade White. “These funds will strengthen our ability to preserve and celebrate the heritage, history and unique culture that makes this such a beautiful place to visit.”

LBL was designated as a national recreation area by President John F. Kennedy in 1963. The land was originally managed by the TVA until its transfer to the U.S. Forest Service.
