We asked Ms. Ross to tell us more about why she wanted to be at SMMS: “I went to Benton Middle School, but it’s no longer here. My old teachers are here [at South Marshall Middle] Ms. Anderson, our assistant principal, was my math teacher in middle school. She’s why I became a math teacher!”
When Ms. Ross isn’t teaching math, she teaches an enrichment class called Future Ready Skills and she’s coaching boys’ soccer. Many of her students also play on her team. Ms. Ross hopes that her students remember that she was “always someone they could come to.” Once again, a teacher that cares about her students’ overall experience, not just the curriculum assigned.
West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Month, sponsored by Scott Walker Construction, is awarded each month of the school year. As March winner, Ms. Ross will join the other 2025-2026 awardees for the West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year which runs April 27th to May 10th. Each teacher’s school receives a yard sign to show that a “Teacher of the Month Works Here.” It’s a great addition to the school entrances and a way schools can show off their winning teacher! Also, thanks to our sponsor, all monthly winners receive $75!
