Five years ago, Marshall County native Erica Jarchow began her teaching career. When asked if she would teach forever if allowed, she emphatically said “yes!”
October marks the third Teacher of the Month contest on West Kentucky Star and each winning teacher is just as special as the one before. This morning, staff from West Kentucky Star, award sponsor Scott Walker Construction and Murray Independent School District surprised Erica Jarchow with her award.
A graduate of Campbellsville University, Jarchow is the 7th grade English Language Arts teacher at Murray Middle School. Her favorite part about teaching ELA is helping students find a connection with a character.
"Kids come in and say 'we can't wait to read the next chapter'," Jarchow explained. She wants students to read and connect with characters because books can be inspiring. "It can be an escape and be entertaining."
When she’s not inspiring students through ELA she loves thrifting, reading and journaling. You can even find her eponymous YouTube channel here.
The award will continue through each month of the school year. All 10 Teachers of the Month from the 2022-2023 school year will be considered for the favorite teacher in the 2023 West Kentucky Star Teacher of the Year.
