One Killed, One Injured in Highway 62 Collision

POSSUM TROT, KY - A two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Marshall County claimed one life and left another person injured.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, the collision happened around 5:40 am on Highway 62, near the Possum Trot Quick Stop. Deputies said an H. T. Hackney semi delivery truck, driven by 37-year-old Nathan Barnes, of Benton, was turning into the Quick Stop parking lot from the eastbound lane.

Police said 76-year-old Maria Carey, of Gilbertsville was westbound, but she failed to see the delivery truck still partially in the westbound lane and struck the rear of the trailer. Carey's passenger, 52-year-old Rocio Carey, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marshall County Coroner's Office.

Maria Carey was taken by ambulance to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment of her injuries. Barnes was not injured in the crash.
