Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler says he was "shocked" and "disappointed" to learn he was being benched.

Coach Marc Trestman made it official Thursday, announcing that Jimmy Clausen will start Sunday against the Detroit Lions and Cutler will be the backup.

Cutler says he could play for Trestman next year but their relationship will need some mending. He says he wonders how committed the Bears are to him and it's crossed his mind that he might have played his final game for Chicago.

The quarterback switch is adding more fuel to the idea that the Bears are in a state of dysfunction and that the future of everyone from general manager Phil Emery on down is open to discussion.

The Bears will miss the postseason for the seventh time in eight years.
