Over 600 runners were registered to hit the streets Saturday morning for the eighth annual Murray Half Marathon.

The top finisher in the half marathon was Festus Chemaoi from Murfreesboro, TN, who finished in 1:15:09. The top female runner was Erica Lovely of Clarksville, TN, who finished in 1:24:38.

The top finishers in the 13.1 Relay (where a team of two splits the distance) were: Male: Russ Shemberger and Tony Kinslow with a total time of 1:52:18, Female: Jessica Smith and Sherry Smith with a total time of 1:59:32, Coed: Wes Alexander and Kayla Alexander with a total time of 2:48:01.

Anthony Hall of Clarksville, TN, won the 5K with a time of 18:04 and Alicyn Hester of Lexington, KY, was the top female finisher with a time of 21:02.

“As always, this was a fantastic event and the weather was great for a run,” said Keith Travis, vice president of development for Murray-Calloway County Hospital. “We couldn’t do it without our sponsors, volunteers, staff members, runners, spirit teams, fans or our community. It takes the whole city to keep an event like this going on for eight years and we appreciate the time and resources that everyone gives."

The race was postponed to October because of the likelihood of severe weather on the original date of April 17.

Final fundraising totals are still being calculated and will be released at a later date. All proceeds from the race support operations at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House. The facility offers end-of-life care in a home-like setting to area residents in partnership with MCCH’s existing Hospice unit.

Race photos were taken by the local Filmburners Photography Club and will be available online at a later date at www.murrayhalfmarathon.com.
