The race of the decade lived up to expectations Saturday night at Bluegrass Downs. The featured match up between track record holder Custom Tag and California Sire Stakes winner My Little Susie drew an estimated crowd of 300 people., and generated a large wagering handle.

My Little Susie who is owned by A Piece of the Action LLC of Culver City, California and trained by John Farmer, trotted the mile in 1:52 2/5. One fifth of a second off the track record set by fellow rival Custom Tag, one week previous. Leading driver Randy Crisler was aboard for the victory.

“She’s just as good as she was last year,” Crisler said, “She trots home really good the last quarter."

Crisler reserved her throughout much of the race. Fourth onto the backstretch, he made his move on her midways to three-quarters. She quickly responded to brush past her rivals and trot home to a six-length victory.

“I knew she was going to pass them, she knew what to do,” he said.

Custom Tag, the track record holder, finished a disappointing third while locally based Emmers, finished second.  My Little Susie will continue to race locally the next few weeks, fans will  have several more chances to watch her race.

Bluegrass Downs races Friday through Sunday with a first post of 4:00 pm. Admission is always free, and simulcast racing is offered five days per week. Bluegrass Downs is located in Paducah, on Park Avenue next to Bluegrass Honda.
