Get LBL Turkey Hunt Applications in February
By WestKentuckyStar Staff
GOLDEN POND, KY - Applications will be available online February 1 for the first six hunting days of the 2014 turkey season at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area.
Three quota hunts in both Kentucky and Tennessee during the first portion of the season require a prior application. In Kentucky, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt for hunters (under age 16 on the Kentucky portion of LBL) March 29-30, a two-day hunt April 8-9, and a two-day hunt April 12-13. In Tennessee, quota hunts include a two-day youth hunt (for hunters 6-16 years old on the Tennessee portion) April 5-6, a two-day hunt April 8-9, and a two-day hunt April 12-13. No hunting is permitted between these dates.
Hunters can apply online at http://www.lbl.org/Hunting.html February 1-28. Applicants can check the website the end of March to see if they were drawn. The Quota Hunt application fee will remain $5 for an online application.
Quota hunts not only provide unique recreational opportunities within the LBL region, they help maintain a healthy turkey population.
The non-quota hunting season, which does not require a prior application, is a fourteen-day hunt, April 14-27 in Kentucky, and two seven-day hunts in Tennessee April 14-20 and April 21-27.
The new LBL Recreation Map is available showing hunt area boundaries, and may be purchased at LBL facilities for $3 or viewed online for free at http://www.lbl.org/VCMaps.html. The 2014 Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) is also available online, or printed copies may be obtained at the Golden Pond Visitor Center. Licensed motorized vehicles are only permitted on roads identified on the MVUM and on the LBL Recreation Map.
