Graves County High School student-athletes Emily Whitnell and Tanner Smith recently were named Wendy’s Heisman winners for the 2014-15 school year.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must participate in at least one varsity sport and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale for their years in high school. Winners are determined by an application process and judged by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America.

Whitnell recently signed a letter of intent to attend Freed-Hardeman University on a golf scholarship. She has been a member of the golf, tennis and girls’ basketball teams during her high school career. She participated in the golf and tennis state tournaments several times. Her parents are Chuck and Binkie Whitnell of Mayfield.

Smith currently is weighing his post-high school options, with an offer to play junior college baseball in Illinois. He has been a member of the Graves County baseball program for five years. He was a starting player for the Eagles the past two seasons. He is the son of Rodney and Stacey Smith of Symsonia.
