St. Mary senior pitcher and utility player Rachel Denkins signed her National Letter of Intent on Friday to further her academic and athletic careers at Campbellsville University.

Through her junior season at St. Mary, Denkins has notched a 1.81 ERA with 390 strikeouts in more than 500 innings pitched for the Lady Vikings. At the plate, she carries a .395 career batting average and a slugging percentage of .545. She has been an All-District team selection from 2012-14 and a member of the “All A” Regional team each of the last two seasons.

A member of the Team Worth Greer travel softball team from Brentwood, TN, Denkins has been under the instruction of the Club K organization in Nashville, TN, with Sherri Dickens as her pitching coach for the last six years. She also added Michael Connell of Smyrna, TN, to her resume of pitching coaches this past summer.

Denkins, the daughter of Peggy and Kip Denkins of Paducah, will join former local players Neely Quint and Jacqueline Roof on Coach Shannon Wathen’s team at Campbellsville.
