Ryle Smothers Murray 56-29 at State Tournament

LEXINGTON - Lauren Schwartz scored 15 points and dished out five assists as Ryle beat Murray 56-29 in the opening round of the 58th KHSAA Girls’ Sweet Sixteen Wednesday at Rupp Arena.

Ryle built an 11-3 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and never looked back. They led by 14 at halftime. Murray struggled offensively, making only 10 of 26 field goal attempts. Ryle outscored the Lady Tigers in the paint 24-6, and scored 27 points off turnovers.

Murray, champions of the 1st Region, was held to its lowest offensive output of the season. The Lady Tigers had 23 turnovers, 12 in the first half.

Calli Carver led Murray with nine points. Parker Greer had 8 points.

Maddie Scherr finished with 10 points, six steals and five rebounds for the Lady Raiders. Austin Johnson and Jaiden Douthitt each scored 10 points.

Ryle, champions of the 9th Region, will play George Rogers Clark in Friday's quarterfinals. Clark beat Mercy 65-64 earlier on Wednesday.
