Zion Harmon has found a basketball home.

Larry Vaught of Vaught'sViews.com is reporting Harmon will play this season for Bella Vista Prep out of Arizona. According to Vaught, Mike Harmon, Zion’s father, said the move has been approved by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and will not jeopardize Zion’s eligibility at Marshall County High School next season as long as he stays enrolled at Marshall and does not enroll at Bella Vista.

Bella Vista plays Life Christian of Virginia at Marshall County High School Friday night.

Last Friday, US District Judge Thomas Russell of the Western District of Kentucky ruled in favor of the KHSAA and denied Harmon's appeal, meaning he is still ineligible to play basketball at Marshall County. On Sunday, it was reported that Harmon had decided to play for Downey Christian, a private school in Orlando, FL, but that apparently fell through.

Harmon has been ruled ineligible for the 2018-19 season, based on the KHSAA's Bylaw 6, which states all varsity athletes must sit out one year after transferring. The bylaw provides exceptions, the most common being “a bona fide change of residence” in which the athlete moves or a divorce by the athlete's parents that leads to a change of residence. Bylaw 6 also states that the KHSAA may still require an athlete to sit out a year if “the change in schools is motivated in whole or part by a desire to participate in athletics at the new school.”

Late last year, Harmon's father Mike, filed a complaint in Marshall Circuit Court, asking for a stay on Zion's ineligibility, and that he be allowed to play basketball immediately at Marshall County. The case was eventually moved to federal court.

Marshall County is the fourth stop in four years for Harmon. He played at Antioch (TN) Lighthouse Christian as a seventh-grader, Bowling Green as an eighth-grader, where he won a state title, and Adair County as a freshman. He enrolled at MCHS last summer.

Harmon, a 5'10" sophomore guard and five-star recruit, currently has offers to play college basketball at several big-time schools including Alabama, Auburn, Creighton, Jacksonville State, Missouri, New Mexico State, Saint Louis, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky.
